Most of the world's wind turbines run on Ecuadorian balsa. The same material that powers the global energy transition is now the first thing travelers see when they land in Quito.
Strong by Form worked with 3A Composites Core Materials to design and manufacture a bespoke Woodflow-skin mural for the departures hall expansion at Quito's Mariscal Sucre International Airport, commissioned by airport operator Corporación Quiport S.A. The panels were crafted entirely in Ecuadorian balsa wood, drawing on 3A Composites' certified supply chain and Strong by Form's digital manufacturing technology.
The design was inspired by the flowing forms of wind turbine blades, translating the material's industrial origin into a sculptural architectural surface. The result combines bespoke 3D geometry, natural wood aesthetics, and acoustic performance in one of the highest-traffic public spaces in Ecuador.
